HOUSING
The City engages in a number of strategies to maintain and enhance a wide range of housing choices for both renters and buyers. Evanston's desirability as a place to live, however, ctonributes to higher housing costs that can limit availability or options for people seeking housing in Evanston. A number of programs are designed to promote housing that is affordable for low, moderate and middle income households. Information to help people maintain their housing is presented through the City's website and other media as well as at periodic educational events. Using federal and local funds, the City has provided financing for acquisition, new construction and rehabilitation of rental and owner-occupied housing for households with incomes below the area median.
