"Contest Your Parking Ticket Online" is Back!

Beginning October 9, 2009, the online contest option for parking citations will again be available through the City of Evanston homepage. Recipients of parking citations may contest a parking citation in-person before a hearing officer; by mail through the provision of a written statement and documentary evidence; and online through an electronic submittal of statement of events and digital evidence. The City of Evanston’s online parking citation contest application has been completely redeveloped to re-establish a paperless process for contesting parking citations.

The enhanced online system provides the respondent full access to the information the hearing officer considers when making a decision. The new version has access to the issuing software and will display the specifics of the citation (date, location, violation, etc.) and all images the Parking Enforcement Officer may have taken at the time the citation was issued. The respondent can then choose whether or not to contest the citation. The format will be easy to use and allow respondents to attach supporting documents and supply a typed statement of their account of the occurrence resulting in a citation being issued to the vehicle.

All information submitted will be attached to the parking citation record providing a complete record for the hearing officer to review. Also, the history of a particular citation will be available in one place increasing efficiency for staff responding to inquiries.

The online contest system will be available through a link on the City of Evanston’s website from the homepage section “I Want To…” located in the lower right hand portion of the home page. The selection will be entitled “Contest my parking ticket” and will direct the user to the contest page. The page will also be available by a link from the parking page currently available entitled “Contest Your Parking Ticket."
