The City of Evanston and the Interfaith Housing Center of the Northern Suburbs Announce Mortgage Seminar Nov. 14

Homeowners with concerns about their mortgages can learn about loan modifications and how to work with lenders at a Teach-in on November 14 sponsored by the Interfaith Housing Center of the Northern Suburbs and the City of Evanston.

The seminar on the “Making Home Affordable” Program and communicating with your lender will be held at the Fleetwood-Jourdain Community Center from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Jasmine S. Brewer, the Director of Housing Counseling with the Interfaith Housing Center, will present information and walk participants through the loan modification process.

Topics will also include communicating effectively with your lender, completing the forms related to loan modifications, avoiding mortgage rescue scams, and how to spot forms of predatory lending. Ms. Brewer will provide information on federal programs and on Energy Star products.

The Interfaith Housing Center of the Northern Suburbs is a 37 year old not for profit organization founded on the premise of fair and affordable housing advocacy. As Director of Housing Counseling, Brewer is responsible for assisting homeowners communicate effectively with their lenders about their mortgages. She has counseled over 400 north suburban homeowners and helped over three dozen families keep their homes. This seminar is designed to empower owners to be proactive about their individual situations.
