Leaf Collection Continues Until Dec. 3

The City will continue collecting leaves on the regularly scheduled refuse/recycling collection days through Thursday, December 3 as part of the regular weekly yard waste collection.

To ensure compliance with state laws, leaves and other yard waste must be collected separately from the rest of household waste. Residents are required to use any of these three options for the disposal of leaves:

• Place leaves in paper yard waste bags, such as 30 gallon Kraft Paper Lawn Waste Bags, available in packages at local stores. Plastic bags will not be collected;

• Compost and mulch to recycle the earth's nutrients, save money and conserve vanishing landfill space. For further information, call the Ecology Center at 847/864-5181; and

• Fill a City of Evanston 95-gallon Yard Waste Cart, available for purchase for $82.50 each through the City Collector’s Office. These reusable carts do not require the use of bags. Order forms can be found on the City’s website.

The City will perform minor repairs to yard waste carts at no charge. Raking or blowing yard waste or leaves into the street is illegal. Violators will be fined. Private landscapers are responsible for the clearing of and the disposal of all landscape materials.
