Pilot Parking Program & Parking Changes in Lot 14
Pilot Parking Program
The City's Parking Services is continuing to research meter technology that will enhance customer service and provide a wide range of parking options.
Understanding the concerns of residents, vistors and business owners in the downtown area, a pilot program using 41 single space meters will be conducted on a 90 day trial basis, beginning the week of November 9, 2009.
The single space parking meter accepts payment other than the standard "coin" operated meter. With the introduction of this new technology it allows customers to pay meter rates with credit cards, eliminating the need to carry large amounts of change.
The two (2) hour maximum time limit from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. will remain. However, the City plans to implement a four (4) hour maximum limit for these meters, allowing users of to park for four (4) hours from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. The meters will be installed at the following locations: Sherman Avenue from Lake to Grove (both sides); Sherman, Grove to Davis (east side); and Davis, Chicago to Sherman (south side).
Lot #14
Additionally, in February 2009 the City's Parking Services installed a multi-space meter in City Parking Lot #14, 1501 Sherman. These meters also allow customers to pay with credit card or cash.
Starting November 9, 2009 the City will permanently implement a four (4) hour maximum limit for parking in City Lot 14, allowing users of the lot to park for four (4) hours from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. In addition, the seventy-two (72) spaces currently dedicated to permits from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday will also be included in the four (4) hour meter program after 5 p.m. daily and used as meter spaces all day on Saturday.
