City Council Selects Twelve Goals
The City Council met this evening to discuss goal setting. While each Alderman and the Mayor expressed the importance of all City services, they selected twelve goal areas to focus attention. These are in alphabetical order:
- Affordable Housing
- Budget Planning
- Capital Improvement Program Planning
- Climate Action Plan
- Economic Development
- Efficiency and Effectiveness of Services
- Federal/State/Regional Government Affairs Agenda
- Lakefront Development
- Northwestern University
- Police and Fire Pension Funding Issues
- Robert Crown Center Improvements
- Safety Issues
The Council selected subheadings the Capital Improvement goal (Street and Alley Infrastructure); Economic Development (Water Sales Issues and Neighborhood Revitalization) and Efficiency and Effectiveness of Services (Transparency of City Operations).
Staff will bring back to the Council between now and the end of November each of these issues areas for further discussion.

Some suggestions from a concerned taxpayer!
* Affordable Housing: turn the Crown Center into low-income housing.
* Budget Planning: don't waste money on the Crown Center, which the City can't afford to "improve"
* Capital Improvement Program Planning: don't waste money on the Crown Center. Let's go for some worthwhile improvements instead.
* Climate Action Plan: turn the Crown Center into a recycling plant?
* Economic Development: instead of wasting money on the Crown Center, a doomed vanity project, get some real businesses in here
* Efficiency and Effectiveness of Services: we won't be able to afford any city services if we waste any more money on the Crown Center
* Federal/State/Regional Government Affairs Agenda: we could always see if there are any outside government agencies that are willing to waste money on the Crown Center
* Lakefront Development: build more expensive toilets; yeah, that what the City needs -- hey, wonder why we can't afford to waste money on the Crown Center
* Northwestern University: they gave us a firetruck, so maybe we can talk them into taking over the Crown Center
* Police and Fire Pension Funding Issues: can't afford these if we waste money on the Crown Center
* Robert Crown Center Improvements: what a waste of taxpayer money!!!!
* Safety Issues: please protect us from aldermen who want to waste money on the Crown Center
