I am starting a City of Evanston blog to share with the community happenings within the City government in Evanston.  I kept a blog in my former position as City Manager in Santa Paula, California which I started in 2004.  During that time, I posted 1,153 items about the City.

The blog will allow for comments.  This can be a dicey proposition for a blog kept by a City Manager.  Comments posted on the blog will be screened to ensure that the comments conform with the "Blog Comment Policy".  I started this policy in Santa Paula to make sure that everyone was clear what can and can not be posted as a comment.  The purpose of comments on this blog is not to be a soapbox for all things Evanston, but for some dialogue on specific issues of the day.  Not everyone was happy with this in Santa Paula, and my guess is that will be the case here too.

Please feel free to email me directly with questions, comments and suggestions for the blog or anything else.  I already get a fair amount of emails directly from residents and will do my best to reply promptly

I believe it is important that government be open and have interaction with its residents on all levels.  I hope that this blog contributes to the dialogue.  Lets see what happens.
