Where Do City Employees Live?
As I meet with community members, a question I have been asked and could not answer was: "How many City employees live in Evanston?" I did not know, so have asked our crack Human Resources Department. The City's 840 budgeted permanent full and part-time employees translate into 1,057 individuals when we take into account the permanent full and part-time breakdown. The residency breakdown is as follows:
Evanston – 33% Chicago – 23% Skokie – 7% Glenview – 2%
The remaining 35% of City employees live in 127 other jurisdictions in Illinois, Indiana and Wisconsin. We also have some part-time employees who live in eight other states ; however, we attribute this to the fact that they are students using their home addresses.
When you add in seasonal and Summer Youth Employment Program employees, the number of individuals working for the City of Evanston rises to approximately 1,650.

Wally -Why is this important were city employees live? It should make no difference, in the coming budget hearing if you keep them or lay them off. It should only be important if the position is need to keep the city operating. It is well know few fire fighters and police officers live here, why would police officers want to live in neighbors next to some of the people they have to arrest?
