I read the presentation with interest and hope you will take the following into account:
1. If you switch to contracted waste pickup, have the contractor hire any of our laid off workers.
2. Do NOT make a deal like Glenview's. I have a friend who lives there and there are always problems and unreliable service in addition to the complicated billing and pick up structure.
3. I own a 2-flat and my refuse bins are broken and bitten; replacements would be welcome!
4. Congratulations on the new recycle bins, they are wonderful!!

In these tough economic times, and at a time when we in America are burying ourselves in garbage as well as shipping it to underdeveloped countries, this is a service that can and should be paid for by the user. People who create more garbage should pay for it. Special pickups should be priced according to the weight or volume or cost of the service, not the nominal charge that is now assessed.
Most other suburban communities have gone with the sticker program for yard waste; let's do it now. Why should people who compost and put out no yard waste have to subsidize those who don't bother?
Making people pay for the garbage they create is good government policy, and we are way behind lots of the developed world in doing so. The city and thus we residents should not subsidize garbage. That we are currently doing precisely that to the tune of 2.5 million dollars a year is not good government.
