City Council Budget Workshop Update

Posted by Wally Bobkiewicz on Jan 23, 2010 at 4:48 PM

The City Council met this morning to discuss the budget.  While no final decisions were made,  staff was instructed to develop a plan to allow the branch libraries to remain open.  In addition, staff was directed to no longer consider significant cuts to the City's Ecology Center as part of solutions to balance the budget.

The City Council will meet again in a special meeting on Monday February 1 at 7 PM to continue discussions on the budget.

More details on the budget discussions today will be posted on the blog and City budget website early next week.

These budget deliberations are astonishing. Libraries are off the table and ecology center is off the table. Since this has all been presented as a zero-sum game, this will require deeper cuts elsewhere. Where is that elsewhere? Let's not take it from the human services!!
