Mayor Tisdahl Presents First Key to the City to Rotary International President
Mayor Tisdahl presented the first "Key to the City" during her term as Mayor today to Rotary International President John Kenny.
Rotary International moved to its Evanston headquarters on Sherman Avenue in 1987, and the City of Evanston has welcomed their commitment to the community ever since.
"It is indeed an honor to have the international headquarters of the Rotary located right here in Evanston," said Mayor Tisdahl. "They are an important part of our community and I applaud them for their commitment to the City not just for having moved here but also for voluntarily paying taxes as a non-profit organization. I wish them nothing but success with all their incredible work they do around the world."
John Kenny, a retired judge from Grangemouth, Scotland, took office as president of Rotary International on 1 July 2009, becoming the first Scotsman to head the international humanitarian service organization in its 105-year.
