Snow Watch 2010

Posted by Wally Bobkiewicz on Jan 6, 2010 at 9:49 AM in Snow Alert, Streets & Sanitation

The first major snow event of the season appears to be on the way to Evanston.

See our website for information on snow emergencies and follow us on this blog, our website, Twitter and Facebook for more information as the storm progresses.  Feel free to comment here as well on any issues that may arise during the storm that the City needs to address.

A local blog I have discovered to help follow the progress of severe weather locally is the WGN-TV Severe Weather Blog.  Having spent the last twenty or so years of my life living in California, this is all very different.  Be careful tonight and tomorrow.

The city used to have designated parking areas during snow emergencies, where you could park off a side street and avoid the problems of being ticketed/towed.

One was the parking lot at Beth Emet synagogue near Asbury/Dempster, another was the parking lot at Robert Crown on Main.

Are either of these (or others), still considered as designated parking areas during a snow emergency ?

Why have no Evanston streets been plowed yet (as of noon January 7), even the snow routes like Sheridan Road? I just had to drive into the city and back, and it is very dangerous on most Evanston streets yet the Chicago streets are all fine. Some sanding seems to have been done here but that has just made it brown slush instead of white.

The City of Evanston cannot authorize parking on private property such as Beth Emet. However you can park at Robert Crown Center as it is public property.

The City has been plowing since 3 AM this morning. Unfortunately, snow continues to fall and accumulates again until plow comes by again.
