I am pleased to announce the appointment of Suzette Robinson as Director of Public Works.  Suzette was selected as part of a nationwide search of public works professionals who applied for the position.  Suzette has done an outstanding job as Interim Department Director while continuing her service as Superintendent of Streets and Sanitation.  Suzette has been with the City of Evanston since 2006 as Superintendent of Streets and Sanitation.  Before her service in Evanston, Suzette spent seven years working as…

Earth Hour in Evanston

Google Day Great Success

Google Day in Evanston was a great success.  Community members from every part of Evanston took part in encouraging residents to register their support for the effort on the Google website. Mayor Tisdahl and other community leaders came together this afternoon to support the City's response to the Google Request for Information.  Support presentations and videos were given by the City, Northwestern University, Evanston Township High School, Evanston/Skokie District 65, the Evanston Chamber of Commerce, Evanston Hospital and small Evanston…

Plans continue for Google Day in Evanston on Wednesday March 24. You can help: 1.  Register your support for Evanston's nomination on Google's website (for residents and community groups). 2. Aldermen Attend Washington Conference

Aldermen Mark Tendam,  Melissa Wynne, Coleen Burrus and Jane Grover have been in Washington Monday and Tuesday attending the Congressional City Conference of the National League of Cities (NLC).  The conference bring Mayors and City Councilmembers from around the USA together to hear from Federal officials on major issues in the Congress, updates on general issues facing cities and allows local councilmembers to lobby their legislators. City Welcomes Shani Davis on March 18

The City will be hosting a ceremony to welcome home Olympic Speed Skating Gold Medalist Shani Davis on Thursday March 18 at the Robert Crown Center.  Doors open at 6:30 PM with the event beginning at 7:00 PM. A similar event four years ago in Davis' honor attracted over 1,000 people, so be there earlier for a good seat.…

Evanston City Website Wins Sunny Award

The City of Evanston's website has won a 2010 "Sunny Award."  The Sunny Award is presented by the Editors of Sunshine Review to honor the most transparent government websites in America.  These websites have scored an "A" transparency grade on Sunshine Review's Transparency Checklist.  This year, only one percent of the 5,000 government websites ranked by Sunshine Review earned a Sunny Award. The City, Northwestern University, interested residents and community organizations continue to work on our response to Google to bring their proposed ultra-high speed network to Evanston.
