Earth Hour in Evanston

Posted by Wally Bobkiewicz on Mar 26, 2010 at 7:57 AM in General Announcements

The City of Evanston is joining communities throughout the world in observing Earth Hour tomorrow night, Saturday March 27. We will be turning off lights at all City facilities from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM and we encourage all residents to join us. Video above does great job illustrating the event.

I an in agreement with the objectives of Earth Hour. And I am please the city of Evanston is as well. I am confused about the granting of a permit to a filming company that allows the filming of a movie from noon on the 27th through 1:00 a.m. the 28th. Now the houses will be dark, but the film crew will have the lights blazing throughout the time earht hour is scheduled. This is similar to the snafu when the streets throughout the city were torn up and Northwestern was holding its commencement exercises and BOTH Custer Street Fair and the Fountain Square Art Fair were on the same weekends. One would hope that someone would think before permits are signed that clearly conflict with city events.
