Happy Earth Day
Today marks the 40th anniversary of Earth Day. The City of Evanston has a demonstrated commitment to environmental sustainability. On May 27, 2006, the City Council adopted a strategic plan that included a commitment to sustainable practices and infrastructure as key goals. In October 2006, the City Council voted unanimously to sign the U.S. Mayor’s Climate Protection Agreement, resulting in a commitment to reduce Evanston greenhouse gas emissions 7% below our 1990 levels by 2012. Fire at 1106 Crain
Here is an update on the fire this morning from Fire Chief Alan Berkowsky: "A fire broke out around 11:15 AM today. A single 911 call reported heavy smoke coming out of the apartment at 1106 Crain. This is a four-story apartment building managed by Nimrod Realty Company. Upon arrival of the first companies, heavy smoke and fire was reported out of the third floor rear side of the building with extension to the forth floor unit. Firefighters laid lines…

City Officials Lobby Illinois General Assembly
Mayor Tisdahl and I went down to Springfield for the day Thursday to participate in the annual lobby day of the Illinois Municipal League (IML). Since we had a City Council meeting the night before, we decided to try taking the train to Springfield. City Council Approves RFI for Wind Turbine Farm
The City Council unanimously authorized issuing a Request for Information for interested parties to provide information to the City on a proposed wind turbine farm in Lake Michigan. Tuesday night is the annual meeting of the Township of Evanston. The Township is a separate unit of government from the City of Evanston. Townships in Illinois were created in 1848 and today there are 1,432 townships in Illinois in 85 of Illinois' 102 counties. Evanston Day in Springfield
The City of Evanston and Northwestern University will host Evanston Day in Springfield on Thursday April 29, 2010. This will be an opportunity for Evanston civic leaders and residents to come to Springfield to have our voices heard on issues of importance to Evanston.
