Fire at 1106 Crain

Here is an update on the fire this morning from Fire Chief Alan Berkowsky:
"A fire broke out around 11:15 AM today. A single 911 call reported heavy smoke coming out of the apartment at 1106 Crain. This is a four-story apartment building managed by Nimrod Realty Company. Upon arrival of the first companies, heavy smoke and fire was reported out of the third floor rear side of the building with extension to the forth floor unit.
Firefighters laid lines into the third and forth floor units while perform a primary search for occupants. No occupants were found. The fire was upgraded to a Box Alarm to provide coverage to the City while units worked to extinguish the blaze and protect other units. Coincidentally, we are holding a Fire Apparatus Engineer Class this week being taught in-house. Fifteen firefighters from the class reported to the stations to gather their gear and assist at the scene in addition to staffing reserve equipment.
Tarps were used to protect furniture and belongs from smoke and water run-off in the units below the fire. The origin of the fire is the rear bedroom of the third floor apartment (actually it is the second floor unit since the ground floor is just an access point to the stairway) at 1106 Crain. Fire was also found in the floor of the forth floor unit. A fire wall between the 1106 and 1108 Crain protected the units to the west. Fire and police investigators are working on the cause of the fire.
No injuries were reported. Nimrod Realty has been very responsive to the incident. Currently, three units are uninhabitable. Pictures taken just before extinguishment and then some after-shots. "
Thanks for update and thanks to the fine work of the EFD.
