Update on Civic Center Roof Repair Project

Posted by Wally Bobkiewicz on Jul 23, 2010 at 6:34 PM in General Announcements

With the first change order for the project on Monday's City Council Agenda I asked project manager Stefanie Levine for a status report:

"Roofing work continues on schedule at the Lorraine H. Morton Civic Center. The contractor is currently in the process of performing work on the building’s north wing. Work on the south wing will follow later this summer once the north wing is complete.

Currently the contractor is nearly a third complete with tearing off the old slate shingles and installing a plywood substrate for the new asphalt shingles. Right now crews are working on the east face of the roof but will be switching over to the west face shortly. Shingle installation should also start shortly on the north wing’s east face.

As the work is progressing across the roof, crews are also removing and replacing the existing inlaid gutter liner and rebuilding sections of the gutter and cornice framing as needed.

On the north wing’s facade, existing deteriorated downspouts have been removed and the masonry joints behind these areas are being ground and tuckpointed. New downspouts will be reinstalled when the masonry repairs are complete."
