Library Social Media Efforts Recognized

Posted by Wally Bobkiewicz on Dec 9, 2010 at 4:04 PM in Library

The social media efforts of the Evanston Public Library were recently highlighted in a library industry blog, LibraryHotSpot.  Included in the article was a fun video made by EPL promoting its E book lending.  EPL is doing more and more innovative things that have been completely overshadowed by other Library community issues.  Kudos to EPL staff for their efforts being recognized by other Library professionals.

"EPL is doing more and more innovative things that have been completely overshadowed by other Library community issues."

I wonder just what Mr. Bobkiwiecz means exactly since it was through his continued efforts to close libraries in town, and has underfunded them again with the budget given to the Library Board for 2011. The "other library community issues" have been the citizens banding together to try to save the much-used, and much-loved North and South branches of EPL. If Wally had properly funded EPL in a way it should be funded, we could quit this pesky "over-shadowing" and let the libraries get down to the business of being the every best it can be. Yes EPL is remarkably innovative, especially since they've been forced to be after having been chronically underfunded for years, they have been forced to do more, with less -- and that takes creativity.
