Outdoor Ice Skating Rinks In Good Shape

Posted by Wally Bobkiewicz on Jan 19, 2011 at 5:52 PM in Forestry and Recreation

Parks, Recreation and Community Services Director Doug Gaynor tells me that the City's three outdoor ice rinks at Ackerman Park, Baker Park and Dawes Park Lagoon are in good shape for skating and temperatures should allow good skating through the end of January.

I had received several complaints from folks about the condition of the rinks.  Part of the problem has been the flux in temperature and part of the problem has been staff resources to keep up flooding and clearing the ice once the temperatures got consistently cold again.  We have rearranged some staff responsibilities to make sure we keep the three rinks in good shape at least for awhile longer this winter.  We may shorten the number of weeks we commit to outdoor rinks next year just so that we can assure that we have the allocated staff resources to keep them in best shape weather will allow.

So enjoy at least the next ten days of skating.
