Power Outage Update - 6:30 PM Friday June 24, 2011
ComEd reached out to Evanston this afternoon and located a staff member at our Utilities Department to coordinate its efforts here.
223 customers remained without power at 6:30 PM. It remains ComEd's goal to restore all power by end of Friday.
Kudos to ComEd for stepping up it's response here today.

We were one of the families whose power outage lasted until Saturday at 3:30. Once the out of town Com Ed crews arrived from Missouri, we finally felt like something good was going to happen. They worked all day and night on Friday, June 24. In a short period of time, they were able to remove fallen utility poles and put up news ones. They were great to work with and had a wonderful attitude. They cared about their work and us. Unfortunately, once the local Com Ed crew arrived on Saturday, the neighbors got terrible attitude and not an ounce of compassion. I would think getting paid at a minimum double overtime would at least make you have a little bit better attitude. Moreover, whatever happened to customer service.
On another note, it would be great if all the major players re utilities would communicate. ATT had no idea, even though all affected customers on my block called, to let them know what a huge problem we had. ATT did not restore power until Tuesday for most customers. We still don't have phone service. Great. Also, Comcast had no clue about the extent of the damage done. My husband, who works from home, had to go to Wilmette Library and Paneras to get work done. A full week without internet service definitely impacted him.
