FOOD PROTECTION
To report possible foodborne illness, please call 847.866.2948.
Inspections
The Food Protection Program activities include periodic inspections of retail food establishments serving food, such as restaurants, grocery stores, schools, nursing homes, hospitals, church kitchens, temporary food vendors, as well as food processing plants, food vending machines and food delivery vehicles. Reinspections are made when necessary. All suspected cases of foodborne illness are investigated to determine the cause and to prevent a recurrence.
Licensing
The Health & Human Services Department also manages the licensing and permitting of all food-service, food-processing and food-delivery businesses. This includes reviewing and approving all plans for new and remodeled food establishment facilities before construction can begin as well as before the establishment can open for business.
