TEEN PARENT SERVICES
The Evanston Subsequent Pregnancy Prevention Program
This program assists first-time mothers 13 through 18 years of age living in areas of high teen birth rates.
Goal: Delay a second pregnancy, use a contraceptive method effectively and consistently; remain and complete high school while assuring the teen and her child are healthy and prepared for school.
Services include an integrated model of adolescent service delivery with two primary interventions: intensive home visiting coupled with substantive training through membership in a peer support group.
The Teen Parent Services Program
This program assists parents under the age of 21 who receive or apply for Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF); or receive All Kids Insurance; Women, Infants and Children (WIC); or Family Case Management (FCM); or food stamps who have not completed high school or equivalent. Participation is mandatory for teens receiving TANF and voluntary for all other eligible teen parents.
Goal: Increase post secondary school completion, reduce subsequent pregnancy, improve parenting skills, and increase the rate of immunizations, well baby visits, and screenings for developmental delay of the teen parent’s children.
