COMMUNITY ISSUES

Diversity is our greatest asset but it also presents our greatest challenge. Due in part to this diversity this department addresses several community issues. We:

  • Assume a leadership role in working to reduce or eliminate hate and hate purveyors such as with the arrival of Matt Hale to Evanston and the Ku Klux Klan in Skokie.
  • Work to eliminate unfair and discriminatory practices i.e. restaurants that fail to deliver in various neighborhoods.
  • Facilitate and participate in a variety of activities to include community wide dialogues on race relations, civility, violence prevention, crime, accessibility, busing, etc.
  • Sponsor, in collaboration with the Evanston Police Department, the annual CommUNITY picnic.
  • Collect and distribute donations at Christmas time for needy families.
