Evanston Police Department
COMMUNITY EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM
The City of Evanston’s CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) program trains volunteers to assist first-responders by offering physical skills and other immediate assistance to family members, neighbors and associates effectively and efficiently without placing themselves in unnecessary danger.
Each CERT member is required to complete 20 hours of training on disaster preparedness, basic
disaster
operations, fire safety and light search and rescue.
All of the City’s CERT members are required to be graduates of the Citizens’ Police Academy. The City of Evanston received funding through the Federal Department of Homeland Security for its CERT.
