POLICE SOCIAL SERVICES

The Police Social Services Bureau is comprised of two distinct entities (Victim Services and Youth Services) which work with crime victims, youth, families and others who come to the attention of the police department in need of a social service response. The Bureau works with community agencies, schools and businesses as needed.

 

The Victim Services Program provides social services to victims and witnesses of crime. The program assists victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, child abuse and other person to person crime. Assistance is offered to victims of property crime in some cases as well.

 

The program also provides assistance for situations that are not crime related yet need a social service intervention, such as with a drowning, fires, or lost and confused persons. Services provided include 24 hour crisis intervention, crisis counseling, court advocacy, emotional support, information and referral and emergency monetary assistance.

 

The Youth Services Program provides Evanston youth, ages 9-17, and their families a broad range of social services including individual, family and group counseling, case

management, crisis intervention and administration of a community services program for youth offenders. Services are designed to improve the levels of functioning in areas of family and interpersonal relations with an emphasis on early detection and prevention.
