RECYCLING YOUR LATEX PAINT

Have a few opened cans of latex paint you'll never use again? Be environmentally correct and recycle them.

Latex Paint is collected at the Service Center on Thursday mornings only. The hours for drop off are from 9 am to 11 am. Paint is collected at the Service Center Visitor's parking lot at 2020 Asbury Avenue and is sent for recycle with Earth Paints Collection Systems. Only paint that is clearly marked as latex paint will be accepted for recycle. Residents should not leave paint outside of the designated collection times.

Collection is open to City of Evanston and Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County (SWANCC) member RESIDENTS only.   Proof of residency is required at drop-off.

Only latex paint that is clearly labeled will be accepted. Oil-based paint or unlabeled paint will be refused. To properly dispose of oil-based paints and sealants visit the Hazardous Waste section of this site for information on drop-off locations.

For more information about latex paint disposal, visit www.swancc.org, email info@swancc.org or call (847) 724-9205.

The City provides this service through the Solid Waste Agency of Northern Cook County (SWANCC) which is partnering with the company Earth Paints Collection Systems to provide this free service to residents in SWANCC communities like Evanston.

Earth Paints Collection Systems picks up the paint in the cans and takes them back to its facility. The paint is separated and bulked into 55 gallon drums.

The bulked paint that is reusable is reprocessed into new, useable latex paint for resale. Unusable latex paint is turned into filler product that is used in the manufacturing of concrete.

The empty steel paint cans are crushed at the Earth Paints facility and recycled locally.
