ARTS COUNCIL
The Evanston Arts Council, established by city ordinance in 1975, is composed of 15 members appointed by the mayor with the advice and consent of the City Council. Members must reside or work in Evanston but may not be an alderman, officer or employee of the city. Council members are appointed for three-year terms and may serve two consecutive terms.
Officers consist of a chair and vice-chair elected annually for one year and may only serve two co
nsecutive terms.
Mission
Recognizing the importance of the arts to the community, the Evanston Arts Council provides leadership and advocacy for the promotion, development and accessibility of the arts for all Evanston citizens and creates an environment for artistic excellence.
Goals
To assist Evanston artists and arts organizations and to foster collaboration and communication between them.
- To identify community's arts needs and develop programs and opportunities to meet those needs.
- To integrate the arts into the community.
- To increase the resources of the Evanston Arts Council.
- To insure artistic and cultural diversity.
- To foster arts education in the Evanston community.

- To propose and promote the creation and preservation of public art in the community.
