In honor of the national initiative sponsored by the National Association for Girls and Women in Sport, Northwestern women's basketball is hosting its annual National Girls and Women in Sports Day on February 12 when the Wildcats face Penn State. Action is set to begin at noon in Welsh-Ryan Arena, and there are plenty of pregame events for everyone leading up to tip.
The pregame event, which will begin at 10:30 a.m., is open to girls in 4th grade through 12th grade. Kelly Amonte Hiller, head coach of the six-time national championship-winning women's lacrosse program, will give the keynote address. Participants also will have the opportunity to meet Northwestern student-athletes, coaches, staff and media members. There will be roundtable discussions that feature various topics relative to women playing sports and working in athletics. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions in those small group discussions.
The event will be held in the Welsh-Ryan Arena N Club and tickets are $3 for participants and family members and cover the event as well as a ticket to the women's basketball game. Tickets can be picked up on the day of the event.
