Forestry
Forestry Division staff cares for Evanston's "urban forest." Duties include tree planting, maintenance and removal.
Tree City USA and Growth Awards
The City of Evanston is proud to announce that for the 28th consecutive year, the Arbor Day Foundation has designated Evanston as a Tree City USA community. Only 10 other communities within Illinois have a longer consecutive streak than Evanston.
The Arbor Day Foundation also has recognized Evanston’s commitment to urban forestry with the Growth Award. This award is given for demonstrating progress in its community forestry program. In its announcement letter, the Arbor Day Foundation wrote, “The prestigious Growth Award honors environmental improvement and higher levels of tree care in Tree City USA communities.” Click here for more information.
You can help replace Evanston's public trees
Following severe storms in 2011 that destroyed many trees, a reforestation fund was established in to help maintain Evanston's parks and parkways. This fund also will be used to help the city replace trees destroyed by the Emerald Ash Borer. All donations of $25 or more will be recognized on this web site.

The firewood sale takes place at 2310 Oakton St. (between the Recycling Center and the Animal Shelter). Hours are 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturdays through the end of February, or until supplies are exhausted. Firewood maynot be available on Sat., Dec. 22 or 29.
Please check here in fall 2012 for updated prices. The 2011 prices were: $30 per 1/8 face cord; $50 per 1/4 face cord; $80 per 1/2 face cord or $150 per full-face cord. Payment by personal check is preferred. Payment also can be made with cash; exact change is appreciated. Credit cards are not accepted. Employees are available to assist with loading firewood into your vehicle, but we cannot deliver firewood. For more information, please call 3-1-1 (847.448-4311).
Holiday Tree Pick-up Schedule
Each year, crews pick up trees beginning the week following Christmas, and continue for five consecutive weeks. This gives residents the flexibility to take down a tree when it’s convenient.
Trees are picked up on the same day of the week as your normal refuse and recycling. All trees should be placed on the parkways, as trees will not be picked up from alleys or private property. Please remove all lights and decorations, and do not place a tree in a plastic bag, as this material can damage the equipment used to convert the trees into mulch.
