Smoke alarms available for seniors with hearing disabilities
Evanston Fire and Life Safety Services will give away 30 special smoke alarms to seniors with hearing disabilities. Evanstonians ages 60 and older who are hearing impaired are encouraged to apply for these special safety devices. Seniors must also meet CDBG income qualifications.
Applications and information are available online at www.cityofevanston.org and also by calling Geoff Block, (847) 866-5936.
These Gentex smoke alarms have powerful 177 candela strobes that flash along with 90-decibel horns that sound when the alarms detect smoke. The alarms are AC powered with nine volt battery backups.
The Evanston Fire Prevention Bureau will provide smoke alarm location and home fire safety information to all recipients.
The smoke alarms were purchased by Evanston Fire and Life Safety Services with Community Development Block Grant funds.
