Help to obtain funding for the Grosse Point Lighthouse

lighthouse

The Grosse Point Lighthouse in Evanston is one of the 25 the sites eligible for restoration funds (one million dollars will be distributed among projects that receive the most votes). We need your help to obtain funding for this National Historic Landmark.

Please take a moment to visit the Partners in Preservation site, by clicking on Vote Today at the right, and follow the instructions (you need to register only one time before your vote). You can vote once a day until October 10, 2007.

Please forward this information to your neighbors and friends and encourage them to vote.  Remember, this is a unique opportunity to restore the Grosse Point Lighthouse.  The more votes you cast, the greater chances for the Grosse Point Lighthouse to get the necessary funds for its much needed restoration.

handshakeAmerican Express and the National Trust for Historic Preservation are co-sponsoring this contest to fund restoration projects in the Chicagoland Area.

Address: Grosse Point Lighthouse National Historic Landmark, 2601 Sheridan Road, Evanston, IL 60201

Once the primary navigational aid into the port of Chicago, and now a private aid to the U.S. Coast Guard, Grosse Point Lighthouse is the only lighthouse on the Great Lakes that has been deemed a National Historic Landmark. This 1873 structure is a symbol for the City of Evanston, and both the lighthouse and the keeper’s quarters are in need of restoration.
