PURPOSE: to provide advocacy and ombudsman services in long-term care facilities; to study and evaluate the needs of seniors; to encourage reduction of duplication in services, and filling of service gaps.

MEMBERS: Fifteen (15) members appointed by the Mayor

TERM: Three (3) years

QUALIFICATIONS: Evanston residents of various socio-economic groups; can not be paid staff member of any Evanston agency serving seniors; at least 1/3 of the commission shall be age 60 or older. 

MEETING DATE: 1st Saturday of each month at 9:30am-11:30am.

The Evanston Commission on Aging has advocated on behalf of older Evanstonians since 1976. The Commission on Aging consists of 15 individuals who are appointed by the Mayor, and whose mission is to identify the needs of older residents and to develop programs to meet those needs.

The Evanston Commission on Aging has established housing and transportation programs that enhance the ability of seniors to remain in their own homes and advocacy programs that protect the rights of long-term care residents. The Commission sponsors educational forums and provides information about the array of senior services available in Evanston.

Services include:

Seniors who do not have an Evanston Benefit Card may apply for one at the Levy Senior Center, located at 300 Dodge Avenue. Questions about income requirements should be directed to the Levy Senior Center at 847/448-8250 or aging@cityofevanston.org.
