Women Out Walking in 7th Week

Posted on Monday May 17, 2010

The Evanston Health Department’s Women Out Walking (WOW) program is in its 7th (of 12) week of operation. Thus far the 1100 or so women involved in the program have walked over 113 million steps, participated in two group walks, attended one workshop (which focused on heart health and had fitness class samplers – tai chi, cardio boxing, boot camp, and line dancing) and are set to have their first healthy cooking class this weekend.

The goal of this program is to encourage women (and families) to become more physically active and live healthier lifestyles. Walking steps (and steps converted from participating in other types of physical activity) are logged each week and allow participants to win prizes. WOW has been a true movement that has demonstrated Evanston’s desire to get up, get moving, and get healthy.

If you are interested in joining us, our next workshop will be held on Saturday, May 22nd from 9-11am at the McGaw YMCA’s Children Center. We’ll be focusing on breast health and fitness classes will include, belly dancing, yoga, strength training, and NIA. Come join us!
