Dramatic Reading Series: "Celebrating Women of Color"

Fleetwood-Jourdain Theatre's Dramatic Reading Series begins July 31 and Aug. 1 The theme of the 2010 Summer Dramatic Reading Series is "Celebrating Women of Color" The series is inaugurated with a production of For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When A Rainbow Is Enuf, by Ntozake Shange. West Nile Virus Update

The North Shore Mosquito Abatement District (NSMAD) reported a pool of mosquitoes from Evanston has tested positive for West Nile Virus. This is the first positive pool identified in Evanston in 2010. So far this year in Illinois there have been 28 positive pools statewide with no human cases reported. The North Shore Mosquito Abatement District has not scheduled any spraying at this time. Home Depot Donates Lawn Mowers to City's Summer Youth Employment Program

This week the Home Depot of Evanston generously donated two gas lawn mowers to the Summer Youth Employment Program’s (SYEP) Community Service Team to help with its work around town. The Community Service Team takes care of property standards around Evanston which includes alley cleanup, maintaining properties and painting the boards of boarded up buildings. “We really love helping the community and this is a great cause,” said Julie Landrum, Store Manager of Home Depot located at 2201 W. Recycling Center to Close Aug. 1

The Evanston City Council, as part of the adopted budget this year, decided to close its recycling center located at 2222 Oakton St. effective August 1, 2010 thus saving tax payers nearly $100,000 yearly. “The City conducted two surveys of people using the recycling center and found that over half of the users were not from Evanston,” explained Suzette Robinson, Director of Public Works. “In our proposal to Council, we recommended that the City adopt a comprehensive curbside recycling program…more »

Area Man Arrested for Auto Burglary

On 7-11-10, at approximately 4:16 a.m. , Evanston patrol officers responded into the 1300 Blk. of Ashland, Evanston, Illinois, referencing a citizen report of a suspicious subject trying open car doors. Once in the area officers observed this subject, made attempts to stop him, but the offender fled the area on foot. Officers then began a systematic search of the area, expanding it citywide. Water Main Break on Oakton St- Street Closed between Dodge & Grey for Repairs

Oakton St. between Dodge Ave. and Grey Ave. has been closed to traffic in both east and west directions for the repair of a water main break. The closure will begin at 7:30 p.m. tonight and last for approximately four hours or until further notice.
