The City of Evanston has kicked off its annual budget process for the Fiscal Year 2011 with a Special City Council Mid-year Budget Update and two Community Budget Workshops which will be aired on Comcast Cable Channel 16 from Friday, October 1st at noon through Sunday, October 3rd.

The City has held two Community Budget Workshops already on September 14th and 29th where the community was invited to learn about the City’sbudget.jpg budget process and to give their input on how the next fiscal year’s budget could be crafted.

Additionally, a mid-year budget report was given to the City Council by staff on September 20th outlining where the City stands financially now and what to expect in the near future which currently includes an estimated $3.5 million deficit based on a twelve month budget. With the change in the fiscal year to coincide with the calendar year, this year’s budget will be based on a ten month period as opposed to a twelve month period.

The following is the time line for the Fiscal Year 2011 budget process:

• City Manager’s proposed budget is due to the City Council on Friday, October 8, 2010;
• City Council budget workshops: Saturdays - October 23 and November 6;
• Public Hearing: FY 2011 Budget, Truth in Taxation Hearing and Public Hearing on Proposed Budget Monday, November 8, 2010;
• Optional Special City Council Meetings: Budget Discussion, Monday, November 15 and/or Wednesday, November 17; and
• Anticipated Budget Adoption: Monday, November 22.

Residents will be able to review all budget related materials at www.cityofevanston.org/budget. Additionally, residents will soon be able to vote at this budget web site on their budget priorities for the 2011 Fiscal Year
