Local middle school students from Fleetwood-Jourdain Community Center's After-School program held a bake sale last month withFleetwood Youth 1.jpg proceeds to go to North Shore United Way. They were recognized by the Evanston City Council on Monday, November 8, 2010 for their efforts.

The students presented the generous donation to local United Way representative, Alex Roveda. Ms. Roveda thanked the group for thinking of United Way, "If these children are the future of tomorrow, I am very inspired."

The proceeds from the bake sale will go towards supporting a network of programs helping local residents who are faced with challenges move from crisis, to stability — to independence.

United Way brings together leaders from government, corporations, human service providers and the community to develop innovative solutions to local issues. We leverage funding for the network of programs that — together — can make a meaningful, measurable difference.
