Griffin Appointed Community and Economic Development Director

Evanston City Manager Wally Bobkiewicz has announced the appointment of Stephen K. Griffin as Director of Community andDSC_3278.JPG Economic Development. Mr. Griffin will begin his duties on November 29, 2010.

Griffin brings to the position twenty five years of municipal community development experience. Griffin is currently Director of Planning for Prince William County, Virginia where he has held that position since 2002. Prior to his service in Prince William County, Griffin was Director of Planning in Spotsylvania County, Virginia and Director of Community and Economic Affairs in Gulf Shores, Alabama.

Griffin received a Bachelor’s degree from Virginia Commonwealth University and a Master’s degree in Urban and Environmental Planning from the University of Virginia. He is also a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP).

“Mr. Griffin brings to Evanston a combination of working in a large, diverse county along with a history of bringing innovative approaches to project review and economic development,” explained Wally Bobkiewicz, Evanston City Manager. “His eight years in working Prince William County have exposed him to many challenges serving a community that is very passionate about maintaining its quality of life. Successfully navigating the County’s unique mix of historic properties and development pressures being located in the Washington, DC metropolitan area have prepared Steve well for the challenges he will face in Evanston.”

“I look forward to Mr. Griffin’s leadership in working with our outstanding staff as we move forward in the critical areas of economic development, community planning, affordable housing and code enforcement,” added Bobkiewicz.

The City of Evanston's Community and Economic Development Department provides overall program administration and coordination for housing, planning, zoning, economic development, property standards, building permits and construction activities.
