Solid Waste Service Changes Begin
Effective November 1, 2010, the City of Evanston has made changes to the service providers for solid waste services. The changes will save the City over $500,000 per year and implement the final recommendations of the solid waste overview that began over three years ago. The new service providers along with the service are as follows:
Service Provider
Residential Refuse Groot Industries, Inc
Condominium Refuse Lakeshore Waste
Recycling Condo & Residential City of Evanston
Yard Waste Residential Groot Industries, Inc.
The change of provider for residential service will not require any immediate change in how, when and where items are placed for collection. The service provider will continue to collect your items when and where they always have. There will be some minor changes in the future to where some resident place their recycling and garbage for collection based on the whether the alley is assessable. Any impacted residents will be notified at least one week before a change is required. Recycling changes will happen first and garbage changes will not occur until spring.
The change of service provider for the City Condo Program participants will require a change in waste container. The existing waste containers that are annotated with the Flood Brothers logo will be replace with Lakeshore waste containers. The change over of these containers began on Wednesday October 27th. The City is working in conjunction with Lakeshore to ensure that every condominium and townhome has a container in place by 6:00pm Monday November 1. The recycling collection schedule for condo's will remain unchanged until the end of the month. Effective Monday November 29, 2010, all condominiums and townhomes that are a part of the City's Condo Program will have their recycling collection on Fridays.
