Veterans Day Ceremony on November 11
A Veterans Day Ceremony will be hosted by the Evanston American Legion Post 42 on Thursday, November 11, 2010, at Fountain
Square. Assembly will begin at 10:00 a.m. The ceremony will begin at 10:30 a.m. and is expected to end about 11:15 a.m. Fountain Square is located at the intersection of Sherman Ave., Orrington Ave. and Davis St.
In keeping with the time-honored traditions of past ceremonies, there will be non-denominational reflections, some singing and some remarks by elected officials and the leaders of local veterans groups, such as Evanston American Legion Post 42, Tech. Sgt. William B. Snell VFW Post 7186 and Vietnow, North Suburban Chapter. A color guard and rifle team will represent the Northwestern University NROTC contingent. In representation of their veteran members, the Evanston Police color guard also will participate in the ceremonies.
Speakers scheduled to appear include U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky, Illinois Representative Robyn Gabel, Cook County Commissioner Larry Suffredin and Lorraine H. Morton, former mayor of Evanston.
