The Evanston Police Department will be distributing holiday food baskets to over 100 worthy Evanston families on Friday, December 17, 2010. Police Department employees have supported this annual charity event through their personal donations for over 26 years.

Referrals for recipients come from the department’s Senior Services Program, Social Services Bureau, four Senior Buildings (Ebenezer Primm Towers, Jacob Blake Manor, the Housing Authority of Cook County buildings at Perlman Apartments and Walchirk Apartments) and several other community organizations/agencies.

Supporting the Evanston Police Department’s annual charity this year includes Sam’s Club, ATK Foods, Becharas, Wholefood, Inc., Highland Baking Company, Dominick’s Food, and Ferrara Pan Candy Company.

This year’s basket includes ham or chicken, vegetables, sausage, fresh fruit, bread, applesauce, soups, cookies, and assorted candies. Volunteer from the Evanston Citizen Police Academy and Evanston Township High School and Department members will pick up groceries, assemble, and hand deliver these special food packages. Assembling begins at 8am on Friday, December 17, 2010 in the North Sally Port and deliveries will begin approximately an hour later. All additional foods will be donated to the city’s community services department who will then disperse them to numerous needy families throughout the city.
