Cook County Seal.jpgMayor Tisdahl met Saturday morning with new Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle in Evanston as part of a morning tour of the community hosted by County Commissioner Larry Suffredin.

The Mayor raised several issues with Preckwinkle. First, the Mayor asked the County's assistance in the establishment of a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in partnership with Erie Family Health Center. Second, the Mayor asked for the County's assistance in obtaining Federal Homeland Security funds to add additional security cameras in the community. The Mayor also asked for the County to be a partner in the city's expanding job training and job partnerships efforts.

Preckwinkle was supportive of pursing all of these initiatives with the City of Evanston and was especially interested in the City's effortspreckwinkle.JPG to start an FQHC here as she sees creative approaches like this to be critical in better serving the health care needs of Cook County residents.

Commissioner Suffredin added to the list of issues discussed better use of resources in Evanston of the Cook County Housing Authority. Sufferdin believes that the County Board of Commissioners should have greater control over the activities of the Authority and believes Evanston's affordable housing efforts would be especially helped.

After meeting with Mayor Tisdahl, Suffredin took President Preckwinkle on a tour of Downtown Evanston to meet with local business owners.
