Evanston tops all communities in CUB Energy Saver challenge

Promo CUBenergysaver.jpgThe Citizens Utility Board (CUB) announced this month that the City of Evanston won the CUB Energy Saver Community Competition with the most members and most electricity savings in 2010 and has won 10,000 Compact Fluorescent Light (CFL) bulbs.

CUBEnergySaver.com is the nation's first free online service that gives households a plan to save hundreds of dollars a year, tracks savings by connecting to power bills and rewards families with movie tickets, gift cards, museum passes and other items for documented reductions in their electricity usage. As part of the Community Competition, Evanston competed against Illinois communities in this state-wide energy efficiency competition.

Evanston Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl and CUB Executive Director David Kolata announced Evanston’s participation in the CUB Energy Saver program in a press conference on August 9th ,2010. In five short months, 330 Evanston residents signed up to participate and CUB estimates the saving at a total of $6,542 a year on their electric bills by implementing recommended changes.

Evanston topped the list in both number of households registered and dollars saved. Results for the top 10 communities in each category are shown below.
