Community Peace Rally April 9th
On April 9th, 2011 a Community Peace Rally will be held to create awareness around the issue of violence in the Evanston community.
The event begins with a community-wide gathering in Twiggs Park (Dodge Ave and Simpson Street) at 12pm noon. At 12:30pm,
Evanston residents will march from Twiggs Park to Evanston Township High School. The line-up at the ETHS Upstairs Theatre begins at 1pm and will include special guests Rashard Mendenhall of the Pittsburgh Steelers and his brother, Walter Mendenhall as well as Manuel Scott , an Original Freedom Writer whose story is told in the Hollywood movie, Freedom Writers.
These dynamic individuals have inspired people of all ages and life stages and will speak about how to cope with some of the issues of violence facing many young people today. Musical performances by Seth “Golden Child” Watson and Sakari, ETHS alums, will follow the speakers.
