Youth Employment Program Streamlines 2011 Job Fair Process
The City of Evanston’s Youth Employment Program (YEP) has made significant changes to the process leading up to the Summer Job Fair, which will be held on April 9, 2011 at the Lorraine H. Morton Civic Center, 2100 Ridge Ave., Evanston. This program is geared to Evanston youth age 14-18 and was formerly known as the Summer Youth Employment Program.
In previous years, over 500 youth would attend a single day-long event. Youth waited in line for several hours, then filled out an application, reviewed job listings and interviewed for jobs. To streamline and improve the job fair, the City of Evanston will hold a series of community outreach events in advance. This will allow youth and family members to view job listings, ask questions about the program, and complete YEP applications at their convenience.
Community information/outreach sessions will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on the following dates:
• Tuesday, March 8 at Fleetwood-Jourdain Community Center (1655 Foster St.)
• Thursday, March 10 at Noyes Cultural Arts Center (927 Noyes St.)
• Friday, March 11 at Robert Crown Community Center (1701 Main St.)
• Tuesday, March 15 at Chandler-Newberger Center (1028 Central St.)
• Wednesday, March 16 at the Ecology Center (2024 McCormick Blvd.) and
• Friday, March 18 at the Levy Senior Center (300 Dodge Ave.).
Starting March 21, applications and job listings also will be available at the Morton Civic Center, Evanston Township High School, and at all School District 65 middle schools and magnet schools.
The deadline to submit YEP job applications is Friday, April 1. Youth will be pre-qualified and invited to attend the April 9 job fair during a specific time slot between 8:00 a.m. and noon. The number of youth invited will be based on the number of job opportunities. Note: In order to be eligible to attend the job fair, youth must be at least age 14 when the YEP begins in mid-June.
