The City of Evanston will install its first solar powered Pay and Display Parking Meter to serve as an on-street pilot program in the 600 block of Clark (south side of street). During the trial period, the existing meters will be hooded and posts will stay in place. In addiiton to being designated as a Tree City USA community for the 27th consecutive year, the City of Evanston has another reason to be proud of its stewardship of trees. The City of Evanston’s Municipal Arborist, Mark Younger, manages the city’s forestry crews who care for Evanston’s public trees. Evanston Designated Tree City USA Friday, April 30 is Arbor Day in Illinois. In conjunction with Arbor Day, the City of Evanston is proud to announce that for the 27th consecutive year, the National Arbor Day Foundation has designated Evanston as a Tree City USA community. Only 10 other communities within Illinois have a longer consecutive streak than Evanston. The National Arbor Day Foundation also has named Evanston a Sterling Tree City USA. On Tuesday, April 12, high above Evanston, residents were able to witness the removal of two 13,000 lb. cooling units at the Evanston Public Library and their replacement with two 9,800 lb. energy-efficient units. The city’s weekly yard waste pickup began on Monday, April 4 and continues on residents’ regular refuse/recycling collection day through Friday, Dec. 9.
