City to Install first Solar Powered Pay & Display Parking Meter

meter.jpgThe City of Evanston will install its first solar powered Pay and Display Parking Meter to serve as an on-street pilot program in the 600 block of Clark (south side of street). During the trial period, the existing meters will be hooded and posts will stay in place. The pilot Pay and Displayed meter will be:

  • Solar Operated;
  • Will accept credit cards, debit cards and coins (no bills);
  • Intended trial will run for two months, commencing on May 2, 2011;
  • Appropriate signs will be installed;
  • Enforcement hours are to remain the same, 9 a.m. – 6 p.m., Monday – Saturday, with a maximum time limit of two hours;
  • Pay and Display – Customer to pay the parking fee at machine and place the receipt on the front dashboard. (Instructions will be on face of the machine);

  • The pilot meter is made available to the City of Evanston from Total Parking Solutions (TPS).
