Enjoy the Bounty of Midwest Farmers at Four Locations Throughout the Summer!

strawberries web 23434361.jpgThe Downtown Evanston Farmers’ Market opened for the season on Saturday, May 7. It will be held from 7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. every Saturday through November 5, 2011. This crowd-pleaser offers over 35 vendors of fruits, vegetables, meat, flowers, cheese, milk, eggs and bakery items. The Market is located at the intersection of University Place and Oak Avenue.

The Downtown Evanston market features many special events. The Talking Farm will sell 35 varieties of warm and cool weather seedlings on May 14.Unique artwork by “Home Grown Artists” will be showcased on six Saturdays, July 9 through August 13. Another regular feature is healthy food demonstrations featuring market products and recipes by Now We’re Cookin’. Demonstrations will take place on June 11 and 25; July 9 and 23; August 13 and 27; and September 10 and 24.

Free parking is available in the adjacent 1800 Maple Avenue Self Park. Reusable and biodegradable bags are sold on site and Illinois Link cards are accepted.

Three other Farmers’ Markets will open later this spring. Ridgeville Market will be held from 3:30 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesdays from June 1 through October 26. Its location is Ridge Ave. at South Blvd.

Evanston’s newest market, the Central Street Farmers’ Market, will feature all-organic produce from Lake Breeze Organics and bread from Great Harvest Bread. It will be held on from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesdays from June 1 through October 26. Its location is Independence Park, Central St. at Stewart St.

The West End Market will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturdays from June 4 through October 29. Its location is the ETHS lot at the intersection of Dodge Ave. and Church St. Link cards are accepted at the West End Market.
