Community Makes Measurable Progress with Evanston Climate Action Plan

go green.jpgSince the Evanston Climate Action Plan was developed in 2008, the City of Evanston has made steady progress to implement the plan and its approximately 220 strategies. Based on input from all of the City departments and community partners, 115 of the strategies identified in the plan have been initiated, completed or are in the progress of being implemented.

Based on the City’s annual assessment of greenhouse gas emissions, the implementation of the Climate Action Plan has resulted in a total reduction of 23,902 Metric Tons of GHG emissions or the equivalent to removing 4,251 passenger vehicles from the road.

Use CFL Lighting – Change 10 bulbs in your home and expect to save an average of $150 and 1400 lbs of carbon every year!

Control your temperature - Get a programmable thermostat and cut your carbon footprint by about 2000 lbs annually. Simple and effective!

Properly Inflate car tires - Improve mileage by about 3.3% and saves the average driver about $60 a year, and reduce carbon emissions by almost 400 lbs.

Heat and Insulate Buildings – Cut heating bill by 20% and reduce carbon emissions by close to 900 lbs.

Water Saving Shower Head –Save $100 a year and cut carbon footprint by 300 lbs per year.
