CPR.jpgFire Chief Greg Klaiber announced today another community partnership to maintain the highest level of customer service to the residents of Evanston and to promote emergency preparedness. Evanston Fire & Life Safety Services is offering to residents and local businesses two CPR courses that are authorized by the American Heart Association.

The Health Care Provider course will be offered to health care professionals and the Heart Saver course will be offered to the general public. Evanston Fire and Life Safety firefighter/paramedics responded to nearly 5000 emergency medical service calls in 2010 with an average response time of less than four minutes. However, citizens can make a difference in the outcome of patients who suffer cardiac arrest by initiating cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) prior to the arrival of an Evanston Fire ambulance.

“The early initiation of quality CPR has proven to increase the survival rate of those who suffer a cardiac arrest. Combining CPR with early defibrillation and advanced life support has proven to save lives”, Chief Klaiber said.

On June 22nd 2011, the first class will be held at the Fire Department Headquarters 909 Lake Street, Evanston, Illinois 60201 starting at 6 p.m. Classes will be offered monthly thereafter.

Evanston residents will be charged a $20.00 fee for this training and separate fee’s for those non-residents working in Evanston will be $25.00 and non-residents $30.00 for the program.
