FINAL_CERT_logo.jpgThe Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area. The CERT course will benefit any citizen who takes it. This individual will be better prepared to respond to and cope with the aftermath of a disaster. The next course will begin on September 7, 2011. The course will run every Wednesday through November 2, 2011 starting at 7 p.m. each Wednesday evening. The final exercise will then take place Saturday November 12, 2011.

CERT participants also receive training in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help.

In the event of a serious man-made or natural disaster, the Office of Emergency Preparedness will activate the Emergency Operations Center and call upon special teams made up of responders from City's emergency field support services that include emergency communications volunteers and CERT Members.
